Reviewers! Please don't miss the point! Atleast I hope he trying to make the point that this is a relfection of the olden days!? Maybe it was a mistake-but I would suspect a song called Retro to contain cheesy old midi sounding synths and simple drum samples. On the matters of stereo, let us not forget that the original vinyl records were mono.

But, then again, maybe it was all a mistake.

A cool idea for this song tho:
Make the retro more purposefully oldschool (compress the hell out of it, mono, oldschool midi), and then when the voice comes in talking about following into the new millenium come in hard with stereo, ass-kickin' modern synths that will make ppl fall out of there chairs, stand up and dance!

Hats off to future hits!

Dj-Powerstorm responds:

Thnx for the review. I only named it retro because the main sequenc throughout the audio was called olden times. So i came up with another name. hence the name retro! Like the one below i don't knoiw whever to tak it as a complimanet or an insult!

Compressors?

This may be considered easy listening if it isn't trance-but definately not techno. I noticed that the arpeggiating synth seems to clip-or distort as it becomes to loud or resonant. Unfortunately that ruins the engaging build ups to me. Try using a compressor-or adding more compression-to this synth. By using this easy fix you can also push it out in front of everything else in the mix.

Keep it Wildstyle!

HouseMasta responds:

yea i didnt feel like using compressors. i wanted it raw. lol.

anyway, thanks for the review

Good Tribute!

It's been awhile since I have done one of these...

Nice track tho, amazing intro, sucked me right in. You should make a full version to add more content to it, otherwise this so far is a great mix of synths. Everything sounds right in place. I really like the bell type synth that fades in and out. And the bassline is really smooth.

One more b4 sleep...

My conclusion thus far after listening to three or four tracks is that: You have great synths for VG music. Other than that they sound a lil cheesy for anything else, sorry.

DOn't get me wrong I am not dissing, cuz this remake reminds me sooo much of Megaman-and now I wanna go get out my old NES. Keep up great work like this. I am pleased enough to boost your scores with a -5- !!

This is for lack of a better word-krunk-its got a lot of cool styles. I originally thought it sounded VG, but when the funk started happenin' I thought it was a great peice of real music-notation wise. I am one who can't make melodies to well, so I appreciate good grooves when I hear 'em. The actual realnes is dampered by your choice of program-this is pruely my opinion-as the opening acoustic sounded fairly well, the rest of you synths are as generic as FL itself. And for FL drums I actually thought they sounded better than some kits I have heard on FL. I think that someone should redo the vocals for you to add that final touch. Actually have some true lyrics and match the way the choir boy is notated and modulated-that would be awesome! Honestly tho, by itself the vox is clearly the reason why you made this song. When that hits the whole peice sounds in perfect harmony and sorta feng shway with itself.

I like it alot, and if I give you a 5 on this it will prolly bump you above my submission. You deserve it tho!

Imma d/l and FIVE-STAR ya!

Cpt-Nemo responds:

Well thanks. I'm am really happy that you like it...it does mean a lot to me when people give me feedback on my submissions. Yes, I did initially write the piece around the vox (read the more recent review though for a brief explanation behind it). If you have something you would like to submit to me to add to it I would love to update it because I think it sounds a little repetative and boring as it stands currently. The drums are actually purely stock FL sounds, but as you guessed, so are the synths. I actually own Reason, but I haven't used it enough to do anything well with it. I agree that FL is fairly limiting in its capabilities (especially the use of "pattern blocks" in the playlist), but this is a discussion for a different place and time. Thanks again for the listen and especially for the review!

N2B-Keep it up.

Its Not 2 Bad for your first FL submission, I guess-only assuming this is one of your first stabs at making music on a computer with raw synth. In my opinion tho, I would ditch FL all together, cuz I find the program irritating and the general sound it produces weak. But it is great for beginners! Work on your melodies and definately fix the EQ and mastering for those as the levels bled into each other quite a bit making it hard to listen too. I will stay tuned for more submissions.

Next time I will be more critical tho, so I hope you got some great stuff in the workship!

whats the eq? ill try to make it clearer next time, gonna go start on another right now thanks.

Progressive meets Safari Game

My immediate reaction to the intro was that of thinking the sounds were of poor quality and choice, but as the song "progressed" I noticed that they purposely fit well into the mix. The mix on the other hand seemed a little off. Almost as tho some of the atmospherics were too quite, like the bassline was drowning out the higher frequency synths or something. I like the higher pitch synth that chimes in every so often. You also have a very soothing pads in the background that capture the mood of the tune all the better. The lil wood block percussion pop-pop is required to stay (fits perfect). This is definately a jungle atmosphere like dance track.

Thus I felt as tho this was almost made for a video game, involving tropical rain forests (hihats remind me of rain almost) intruiging jungle scenery, and wild plains.

I suggest everyone to get into their jeep (with the 12" subs in the back) get your rifle cuz were going on a safari WV trance style!

Cool song man-I woudln't say its my favorite but it is definately pleasing to the ear and easily looped.

Thanks dood!
JAG

PS: The more I loop it the more it grows on me :P

MattBlair responds:

Well let it grow and grow and grow. And as soon as you buy me a jeep with some 12" subs in the back, we'll go. Thanks alot.
